About hostel.ma

A small, independent project building the best backpacker guide to Morocco.

Why hostel.ma exists

Morocco is one of the most rewarding backpacker destinations on earth — but the web is a mess of outdated blogs, listings scraped from booking engines, and TripAdvisor spam. hostel.ma is a small, independent project that cuts through the noise with one job: tell you where to sleep well for cheap, from the Rif mountains to the Sahara dunes.

How we pick hostels

Every hostel linked from this site has been cross-checked across at least three review sources (Hostelworld, Booking.com, Google reviews) with a minimum rating threshold. We favour hostels that score well on cleanliness, safety, and social atmosphere — the three things backpackers tell us matter most. We revisit the list each season and drop anywhere that slips.

How we make money

hostel.ma is free for travellers and always will be. When you book via a partner link (Hostelworld or Booking.com), we receive a small commission from the platform, never from you — the price you pay is identical whether you book through our link or directly. This is what keeps the site running, ad-free, and independent. If a hostel tried to pay for coverage, we’d say no.

Who’s behind the site

hostel.ma is run from Morocco by a small team of backpackers and developers who have travelled every city on this site in person. We built it because we wished something like it had existed when we started travelling here. Questions, corrections or a hostel we missed? Write to us at hello@hostel.ma.
