Tangier has three hostel zones

Tangier is more sprawling than other Morocco hostel cities, and where you stay shapes your trip. Pick zone first, then hostel.

Medina hostels

Atmospheric old-merchant-house hostels inside the walled town, near Petit Socco. €10–16 dorm. Best for budget + vibes. Can feel chaotic on your first night if you’re new to Moroccan medinas.

Kasbah hostels

In the upper old town with views across the Strait of Gibraltar. Quieter than the medina, a few quality boutique-style hostels at €14–20 dorm. Best for photographers and sunset lovers.

Ville Nouvelle hostels

Around Boulevard Pasteur. More modern, quieter, closer to train station. Best if you’re just passing through for the ferry to Spain. €10–18.

Best for solo female travellers

Kasbah area tends to feel safest at night; look for women-owned hostels or female-only dorms. Avoid booking anything without verified recent reviews — Tangier’s hostel scene has more variability than Marrakech or Fes.

Ferry day base

If you’re only staying one night before the Tangier Med ferry to Spain, book near the train station (CTM station is in Ville Nouvelle). Save the medina for a longer stop.

Price tiers

  • €8–12: basic medina dorm, older building.
  • €13–20: restored medina or Kasbah hostel with breakfast.
  • €22–30: boutique-style with private rooms and sea-view terrace.

Booking tip

Summer (Jun–Aug) and Ramadan’s Eid weeks are the busiest. Book 2 weeks ahead. Weekday off-season stays are usually discounted.
