Book hostels in Anza

Agadir's surf neighbourhood — left point break, dinosaur footprints, no tourists.

Anza is a working-class beach suburb on Agadir's northern edge — 10 minutes from Agadir port. Locals come for sardines and sunset; surfers come for the long left point that fires from October to March. There are also fossilized dinosaur footprints on the rocks at low tide. Stay here if you want Agadir prices but a calmer, more authentic vibe than the resort strip.

Highlights

  • Surfing the left point at Anza Reef
  • Spotting dinosaur footprints on the rocks at low tide
  • Grilled sardines from a beach shack at sunset
  • 10-min taxi to Agadir's souk and marina
  • Yoga at one of the new rooftop studios

Best for

  • Surfers on a city budget
  • Travellers stopping over en route to Taghazout
  • Long-stay nomads
  • Anyone who finds Agadir resort strip dull

When to visit

October–March is peak surf with consistent 1.5–2.5m sets. April–September is small but warm — good for beginners. The water sits at 18–22°C year-round; a 3/2 wetsuit covers you.

Budget

Dorm: €8–12. Private surf-house room: €15–25. Tagine on the corniche: €4–6. Surf lesson + board: €25/half-day. A surf week from Anza: €150–200.

Getting there

Agadir Al-Massira airport (AGA) → Anza is 30 min by taxi (€10–15 fixed). City bus L23 from Agadir centre runs every 20 min for €0.40. Taghazout is 20 min north by grand taxi.

Safety

Quiet local neighbourhood — solo women have no issues by day. After dark stick to the lit corniche. The reef break has shallow rocks and is for intermediates+. Beginners should head to Tamraght's beach break instead.

Where to stay — neighborhoods

Not all hostels are in the same part of town. Here’s how each area compares.

Anza Plage

Best for: Surfers, beach access

The seafront strip with surf shops, fish cafés and most cheap guesthouses. Reef break is right out front.

Anza Centre

Best for: Local life, cheap eats

Two blocks back from the sea — corner shops, pharmacies and the bus stop. Cheaper rooms but a 5-min walk to the beach.

Tips from us

  • Don't book the Agadir resort strip — Anza is 10 min away, half the price, more authentic.
  • Low tide is best for the dinosaur footprints; check tide tables before walking the rocks.
  • Friday is fish-market day on the seafront — go before 10am for the catch.
  • Use Careem or InDriver app for taxis to/from Agadir to avoid haggling.
  • If the wind blows north, head to Tamraght or Imi Ouaddar for cleaner waves.
