Book hostels in Aourir

The Banana Village — palm groves, surf school strip, 15 min north of Agadir.

Aourir — known to every surfer simply as 'Banana Village' — is a roadside town between Agadir and Taghazout, surrounded by banana plantations watered by the Tamraght river. The main road is a 1km strip of surf schools, juice bars and cheap guesthouses. It's the budget alternative to Taghazout: same waves, half the price, slightly less party.

Highlights

  • Surf lessons at Banana Beach (Devil's Rock)
  • Walking the banana groves at golden hour
  • Friday souk for fruit, argan oil, household everything
  • Sunset from the cliff at Cap Ghir lighthouse (15 min drive)
  • Cheap rooftop tagines on the main strip

Best for

  • Surfers on a strict budget
  • Solo travellers who want a base near Taghazout
  • Beginners (Banana Beach is gentle)
  • Long-stay digital nomads

When to visit

October–April for surf consistency. May–September is sunny and crowd-free; ideal for beginners. The microclimate keeps Aourir mild — 18–28°C almost year-round.

Budget

Dorm: €7–10. Surf-camp room with breakfast: €18–28. Tagine on the strip: €3–5. Surfboard rental: €6/day. 1-week surf-camp package incl. lessons: €180–250.

Getting there

From Agadir airport (AGA): 25 min taxi (€15 fixed). City bus L32 Agadir↔Taghazout stops in Aourir every 20 min for €0.50. Grand taxi from Agadir bab Inezgane: €1.20.

Safety

Safe village vibe. Main risk is crossing the N1 main road — fast trucks, no proper crosswalks. Banana Beach has rip currents at low tide; beginners should stick to the right-hand sandy section.

Where to stay — neighborhoods

Not all hostels are in the same part of town. Here’s how each area compares.

Main strip (N1)

Best for: Surf schools, eats, transport

The 1km road through town with most surf camps, juice bars and the bus stop. Convenient but noisy.

Banana groves (river side)

Best for: Quiet stays, walking

A few guesthouses tucked among the plantations. Cooler, quieter, 5–10 min walk back to the strip.

Tips from us

  • Stay one block back from the N1 highway — front-row rooms are noisy.
  • Most surf camps include free shuttle to Anchor Point and Killer Point in Taghazout.
  • Friday souk in Aourir is bigger and cheaper than the Taghazout one.
  • Buy bananas straight from the plantation gates — half the supermarket price.
  • Walk the dirt road to Tamraght (20 min along the river) at sunset for the best palmgrove views.
