Book hostels in Imi Ouaddar

Last fishing village before the wild north — secret point breaks and silent dunes.

Imi Ouaddar is 8km north of Taghazout — a small fishing village where the road quietens and the surf hides in coves. The village itself is one paved street, a few cafés and a long beach used more by camels than by tourists. The famous Boilers and Killer Point breaks are a 10-min drive south. Stay here if you've outgrown Taghazout's bustle.

Highlights

  • Sunrise camel walks on the empty beach
  • Surfing Boilers point (intermediate+) 10 min south
  • Argan oil tasting at a women's co-op nearby
  • Long beach walk towards Cap Ghir
  • Fresh-grilled fish at the small port

Best for

  • Off-grid travellers
  • Photographers
  • Couples seeking quiet beach time
  • Surfers chasing less-crowded peaks

When to visit

October–April for surf and 19–24°C days. May–September is very calm; book a beach-front room and don't move. Wind picks up in afternoon — mornings are golden.

Budget

Dorm: €8–12. Beach-front guesthouse room: €25–40. Tajine at the port: €5–7. No surf shops in town — bring or rent in Taghazout (€8/day). 1 quiet week: €130–180.

Getting there

From Agadir airport (AGA): 50 min taxi, €25 fixed. From Taghazout: 10 min, €1.50 grand taxi or 15 min by bus L32 (€0.50). No direct buses from Agadir — change in Taghazout.

Safety

Tiny, very safe village. The biggest risk is finding nothing open after 9pm — eat early. Beach has rocky sections; check before swimming. No ATM; bring cash from Agadir or Taghazout.

Where to stay — neighborhoods

Not all hostels are in the same part of town. Here’s how each area compares.

Beachfront

Best for: Sunset, sound of waves

A handful of guesthouses directly on the sand, mostly Berber-family run, basic rooms but unbeatable views.

Village interior

Best for: Cheaper rooms, local life

Two-street centre with the bakery, café and bus stop. Cheaper rooms but 5 min walk to the beach.

Tips from us

  • Book a beachfront stay — the village interior is only 2 streets and there's no nightlife trade-off.
  • The Boilers reef break is 10 min south by taxi — the best wave between Anchor Point and Cap Ghir.
  • Fishermen sell straight from the boats around 7am at the port.
  • Bring a Berber tagine cookbook — many guesthouse owners will teach you.
  • Stargazing is excellent — almost zero light pollution.
