Book hostels in Sidi Ifni
Art Deco seafront, surf breaks and the ghosts of Spanish Sahara.
Sidi Ifni is a cliff-top Atlantic town 180km south of Agadir, a former Spanish colony until 1969. Faded Art Deco buildings in white and blue, a dramatic coastline of red cliffs and beaches, and a surf scene that feels 15 years behind Taghazout — which is the charm. Legzira beach (once famous for its natural stone arches) is 10km north, where one arch still stands.
Highlights
- Art Deco Plaza de España (still called that locally)
- Legzira Beach and its surviving stone arch
- Surfing Mirleft and Aftas breaks
- Sunset on the cliff-top promenade
- Fresh sardine lunch at the port
Best for
- Spanish-heritage fans
- Surfers avoiding Taghazout crowds
- Slow-travel road-trippers
- Solo travellers seeking quiet
When to visit
Year-round mild climate (18–25°C). September–November has the best Atlantic surf. June–August sees domestic tourism and Spanish visitors. Winter is cool and grey but beaches stay empty.
Budget
Dorm beds €8–13. Plate of sardines: €3. Surfboard rental: €10/day. Taxi to Legzira beach: €5 round trip. Day total: €18–25. Cheaper than Taghazout and noticeably less touristy.
Getting there
CTM/Supratours bus from Agadir: 3h30, €7. Shared grand taxi from Tiznit: 1h, €4. Own car is ideal for exploring Mirleft and Legzira. Agadir airport is the closest major one.
Safety
Very safe, minimal hassle, small-town atmosphere. Cliff edges have no railings — stay back from edges especially at night.
Where to stay — neighborhoods
Not all hostels are in the same part of town. Here’s how each area compares.
Town centre (Plaza de España)
Best for: Art Deco streets, cafés, hostels
The Art Deco heart on the clifftop. Most hostels, all the photogenic Spanish-era architecture, and the promenade.
Legzira / Mirleft (north)
Best for: Beach stays, surfing base
10–20km north, with surf camps and cliff-top guesthouses on red-sand beaches. Need a taxi or car to reach Sidi Ifni centre.
Tips from us
- Stop in Mirleft on the way — a 20km-north surfer hamlet worth an afternoon.
- The surviving Legzira arch is still photogenic even after the 2016 collapse of the second arch.
- Sunday market (souk) is the social event of the week — go early.
- Old Spaniards occasionally return — some restaurant menus still have Spanish names.
- ATMs exist but sometimes run out on weekends; bring backup cash.
